The term Automix has been used since the 1970s for predominantly hardware-based systems. However, these systems are not ‘content aware’: they simply prioritize the loudest audio signal.
LAMA AutoMix is the first intelligent software solution that allows broadcasters to combine multiple audio signals into a well-balanced mix. You can connect signals from commentators, international sound and video sources into a single output that meets industry standard levels, all in real-time.
A growing challenge of UHD 4K transmission is that there is a relatively high processing delay when delivering video. Often a broadcaster will want to use the same audio mix for the “faster” HD video as for the UHD feed. This can create a clearly visible delay between the audio and image of the UHD broadcast. As an example, you can hear a ball being kicked before you see it.
A solution for this is to delay the audio signal for the UHD broadcast. But there is a complicating factor to this relatively simple problem: the delay may change due to the rerouting of data paths or other issues.
The LAMA AutoSync software solution automatically and continuously measures the amount of delay between the different signals and applies this delay to the target audio. This ensures near-sample level synchronization.
Based on our ‘connect and forget’ philosophy, the solution supports applying the delay compensation to multiple target signals at the same time. The amount of delay applied is determined by the comparison of the two separate guide signals.
The LAMA Platform Pro version supports managing several audio processes with a tree-based explorer that structures processes in a hierarchy of user-created groups. For added flexibility, we support storing/loading individual style configurations as well the entire state of a platform instance. Some system load and performance monitoring is also provided.
The LAMA Platform Pro is a UI application. No specific hardware is required. Audio I/O can be done using any standard audio driver type.
Soon, we will also offer a web-based interface and the option of further automation via an API for basic control by other processes: this API and web-based interface are currently under development.
